چکیده

The integral valorization of potential sugars (cellulosic and hemicellulosic) from spent coffee grounds (SCG), a lignocellulosic residue, is proposed in this work. With aim, the microwave assisted dilute sulfuric acid pretreatment has been optimized, leading to hemicellulosic sugar recovery liquid (HSRL) an enzymatic hydrolysis yield 79 98%, respectively, at 160.47 °C 1.5% H2SO4. Moreover, complete digestibility cellulose (enzymatic = 100%) was also discovered for non-pretreated SCG, which very interesting. Secondly, production biobutanol, advanced biofuel, pretreated SCG hydrolysate achieved under optimal conditions. These were fermented by Clostridium beijerinckii, yielding 95 kg butanol/t (dry matter) 151 acetone-butanol-ethanol/t matter).

Enhanced Succinic Acid Production from Sake Lees Hydrolysate by Dilute Sulfuric Acid Pretreatment and Biotin Supplementation

Succinic acid is valued as a potential starting point for the production of chemicals of the C4 family or in the preparation of biodegradable polymers. For sustainable development in this era of petroleum shortage, production of succinic acid by microbial fermentation of renewable feedstock has attracted great interest. In this study, pretreatment with sulfuric acid and biotin supplementation w...

Separation of butanol from acetone-butanol-ethanol fermentation by a hybrid extraction-distillation process

The alternative fuel butanol can be produced via acetone-butanol-ethanol (ABE) fermentation from renewable resources, i.e. biomass. Expensive feedstocks and the high costs for the separation of ABE from the dilute fermentation broth in the downstream processing have so far prohibited the industrial-scale production of bio-butanol. The low productivities and butanol yields of ABE batch fermentat...

Formic acid triggers the "Acid Crash" of acetone-butanol-ethanol fermentation by Clostridium acetobutylicum.

Solvent production by Clostridium acetobutylicum collapses when cells are grown in pH-uncontrolled glucose medium, the so-called "acid crash" phenomenon. It is generally accepted that the fast accumulation of acetic acid and butyric acid triggers the acid crash. We found that addition of 1 mM formic acid into corn mash medium could trigger acid crash, suggesting that formic acid might be relate...

Characterization of polysaccharides extracted from spent coffee grounds by alkali pretreatment.

Spent coffee grounds (SCG), obtained during the processing of coffee powder with hot water to make soluble coffee, are the main coffee industry residues and retain approximately seventy percent of the polysaccharides present in the roasted coffee beans. The purpose of this study was to extract polysaccharides from SCG by using an alkali pretreatment with sodium hydroxide at 25°C, and determine ...

Isolation of polyphenols from spent coffee grounds and silverskin by mild hydrothermal pretreatment.

In this study, a new method for isolation of polyphenols (PP) from spent coffee grounds (SCG) and coffee silverskin (CS) is described. The method consisted of a mild hydrothermal pretreatment at 120°C, for 20 min, using a liquid-to-solid ratio of 20 mL/g. PP (determined as gallic acid equivalents, GAE) were the most abundant components in the extracts produced by this method, corresponding to 3...
